The (NOT SO) Skinny Girl

I am reminded on  International Women's Day that I am a woman, and that that is something that is a force to be reckoned with. I am reminded by Hillary Clinton, Ashley Judd and countless other feminists that being a woman is a bold, brazen (nasty?), and strong thing to be.  I just want to take a moment now to count down the times I truly felt like a strong woman. When I learned to throw, hit, and catch like a girl. When I put pen to paper and drew a detailed picture or wrote a moving poem. When I made it onto the honor and high honor roll (the first time and every time) The first time I rode a horse- and every single time after. When I won my first blue ribbon. When I fall off, and get back on. Also, when I realize it's ok to not get back on right away. The first time I decided I had to be strong for someone else. Even though I was dying inside. If you're an American woman, 3/8/17 is "A Day Without Women", modeled after "A Day Without Immigrants". HERE WE GO AGAIN  (I almost sound like Graham Allan ).... The website for International Women's Day challenges you to "call on yourself to help forge a better working world". The organizers behind the January "Women's March on Washington" have also organized and planned walkouts, rallies and marches dubbed "A Day Without a Woman".Women are not only encouraged to stay home from [paid] work, but also to (if socially and economically able to do so) abstain from [unpaid]housework and child care, and shop only at small, women-owned businesses. So basically... shirk all of your responsibilities in general  and go shopping   to make a point.  NO RESPONSIBILITY NO ACCOUNTABILITY NO F**KS GIVEN.... This may be one of the most (bizarre) significant elections of all time for America. The two major parties have both put forward "controversial" figures. One is a man, one is a woman. One is a lawyer turned politician, one is a business man not familiar with the ins and outs of politics. One has disappointed the majority of the American people publicly, the other has disappointed the minority of American people privately. Both are vying for every single person in America's VOTE. ...........AND  THEN.......... There's the two other options- Libertarian Gary Johnson and Green Party Jill Stein. Oh wait, you're an American and didn't know you had other options? Oh wait, you are a foreigner and didn't know we had other options? (As you've been scoffing at us and feeling bad for us having to choose the lesser of two evils...) Do you know what I'm tired of? -Mudslinging - going after the "little guys", minorities, and groups of people...

The recent third and final presidential debate had a wildly - and slightly gory- leading topic...abortion. Hilary says the women have the right to choose, and even in late pregnancy she would not force a woman to give birth if it's detrimental to the health of the mother. Fair enough. The Donald said that he didn't agree with late term terminations, saying that it's not right to "rip the baby from the womb at 9 months". In his defense- he probably has no idea of the realities of child birth.  Because- all you out there on the 'ole interwebs- at 9 months, it's not abortion, it's straight up MURDER. However, a fetus can survive on it's own in this cruel outside world at 24 weeks. 24 weeks= 6 months. In fact, most states have banned  abortion at about 24 to 26 weeks of pregnancy So- depending on the state of the fetus, anything after that mile marker could be considered murder as well.  But what really riles me up is people...

I was not against a black man for president. I was FOR his charismatic speeches that had grand ideas, which never came to fruition. I was also young and dumb. I also did not like the other candidate as much. So I cast a vote and hoped and hoped this man, no matter what color his skin was, he would hold true to his word. And there was a lot of disappointment. But there will always be. And I will remind the American public why- there is only so much the President of the United States can ACTUALLY DO. There is a system of checks and balances set up that restricts the President : That's just a little flashback to grade school when they taught us this.The president as a person does actually very little- but they are our elected representative to carry out the overall will and laws of the people and country as a whole. That being said... Now it's an uproar and a celebration because the first woman has won the presidential nomination. I'm a woman, girl power! But did you know?...
