Colin Kaepernick's right, my right....

After talking about this whole thing in depth with my husband... I know what my point in this all is. I wrote a Facebook post and someone seemed disappointed in how I was viewing this. I realize that hiding behind a keyboard, you lose your emotion and you lose a sense of what you are trying to say. SOOOOO here goes. It's not about his right to stand or sit. It's not about his opinion or his feelings. For me, it's about the way he went about it. He didn't put the time into thinking about his approach to this topic. He had the power, the media, and the presence to make a point and make a difference. And he took action- he sat. And the cameras zoomed in and they saw him and people started wondering, people started asking. They asked if he was injured, sick, what could be triggering him to sit like this. And then he got the opportunity to explain. I guess for me, if you have to explain why you did what you did- you missed the big opportunity to make a po...

More comments from the Pope

The Pope recently said the church should ask forgiveness for the way it has treated gays, as well as 'women, for turning a blind eye to  child labor  and for “blessing so many weapons” in the past'. This is not to be overshadowed either. There is a reason I backed out of the church a few years ago. Antiquated teachings, and comments about gays, and the fact that women cannot play a larger role in the church... all these things and a priest who didn't make me feel accepted and loved and didn't enlighten me. I felt like it was not doing the good in my life that I needed and I did not make it a priority. And yet, that was just locally. Since I have scaled back my church going, Pope Francis has upped his game. He is talking about things like being tolerant and apologetic to gays. And he's talking about us... that's right ladies- he's talking about women and their role in the church. My ears are open- Go on... So he says the door is closed. Men are priests, t...

Comments from THE POPE

SO I just read that the Pope made a statement about gays...  He said that the church owes an apology for judging and offending people who identify this way, as  Christians are not supposed to judge or discriminate like this.  And it is profound.  The church teaches that gay tendencies are not sinful but that gay acts are, and that gays should try to be chaste.  “The questions is: If a person who has that condition (the word he used in Italian translates to condition but can also be used as "situation"), who has good will, and who looks for God, who are we to judge?” Pope Francis said. It is following in the footsteps of his statement in 2013 when he said, about gays,  "WHO AM I TO JUDGE?" "The church must say it is sorry for not having behaved as it should many times, many times — when I say 'the church,' I mean we Christians, because the church is holy; we are the sinners," the pope said. "We Christians must say we are sorry." Y...

The Awakening... awaken the BEST you

Someone shared this with me today and it evoked a lot of emotion in me. Maybe it will for you, too. The Awakening (Author unknown) A time comes in your life when you finally get…when, in the midst of all your fears and insanity, you stop dead in your tracks and somewhere the voice inside your head cries out…ENOUGH! Enough fighting and crying and blaming and struggling to hold on. Then, like a child quieting down after a tantrum, you blink back your tears and begin to look at the world through new eyes. This is your awakening. You realize it’s time to stop hoping and waiting for something to change, or for happiness, safety and security to magically appear over the next horizon. You realize that in the real world there aren’t always fairy tale endings, and that any guarantee of “happily ever after” must begin with you…and in the process a sense of serenity is born of acceptance. You awaken to the fact that you are not perfect and that not everyone will always love, appreciate or...
