Kevin Hart has said what every normal person feels/believes...

As I sit here in my pajamas, trying to finish eating cold oatmeal and drink cold coffee, with my 3 month old daughter fussing at my side- the little dictator that she is- I say to myself, "Wow, if only 20-year-old me could see me now". What do I mean when I say that? I mean I was pretty much hell on wheels until I was 28. A hot mess for too long. In no way a role model or even proud of myself for .... anything really. I didn't speak eloquently or smartly, I was often not a respectful person towards other, I was probably down right insensitive. And I was kinda a tramp. Not exactly the kind of person you'd want around kids or even to take home to meet Mom and Grandma. But, hey- PEOPLE CHANGE. In the words of Kevin Hart: "   If you don't believe that people change, grow, evolve as they get older, I don't know what to tell you. If you want to hold people in a position where they always have to justify or explain their past, then do you."   Can we all...

Living in an age of GUILT

Maybe it's just me and my upbringing, I mean Italian mothers/grandmothers are top notch at laying on the guilt. God forbid you made ANY plans on a Sunday, or any other day designated as a family day, that didn't include getting together at Mom or Grandma's house for a 3 course (or more) army-sized meal. As I grew up and became aware and independent, I felt 'guilt' more and more. Not just for not spending time with family. For not thanking them enough. For not doing enough around the house. For not offering to do enough. For not having better grades or being better at something. For not having enough money for things. All sorts of guilt. I've carried this childhood notion of always feeling guilty about everything into my married, established, adult life.  Interestingly enough, where I thought it was just a "ME" thing, I'm starting to realize our culture, as a whole, is very geared towards placing guilt on people unnecessarily. It comes in a lot o...

UpWorthy apparently isn't so uplifting... damn, I was starting to like them

Headline:  As we celebrate marriage equality and LGBTQ acceptance, we must remember there is still a long way to go. (via  Channel 4 News ) Video subtitles: Homosexuality is still illegal in 72 countries. In 8 nations it is punishable by death. In 2014, two Iranian men were hanged for Sodomy. In 2003, three men were publicly beheaded for homosexual acts in Abha, ASIR Province. (WAIT WHY IS THE INFO SO OLD?? DON'T THEY HAVE SOMETHING  A LITTLE MORE RECENT?) Uganda is one of 14 nations where same-sex acts are punishable by 14 years to life in prison.Uganda's president, Yoweri Museveni stated " No study has shown that you can be homosexual purely by nature. Since nurture is the main cause of homosexuality, then society can do something about it to discourage the trends." Homosexuality is outlawed in the majority of Africa. (Shows crying people- but I hear there's a lot to cry about in Africa...) Homophobia is on the rise in the continent, often enabled by new, s...

same-sex parents will no longer be able to be listed on their kids' birth certificates

Headlines: Arkansas just took a giant leap backward with LGBTQ rights: same-sex parents will no longer be able to be listed on their kids' birth certificates. My opinion- THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH LGBTQ RIGHTS.  LGBTQ are making mountains out of mole hills again. **SIDE NOTE- Take a look at Italy's laws about adopion, surrogacy, in vitro, etc. WAY stricter than here.** What rights are being violated here? Really- the rights of the unknowing child (if anyone's) are being violated because they are being lied to from the moment they are born.  From my point of view- this should be supported as a scientifically backed move for informational purposes.  How are we supposed to track things like genetic defects, genetically linked diseases, hereditary issues, cancers??  I had to go through all sorts of cancer screenings because my adoptive mother had breast cancer and its hereditary, and in turn they missed screening me for all the issues my biological ...

10/11 is national "Come Out Day"!! :)

So I am not gay or anything. I mean, I dabbled in Bi in college- but who didn't??- and I think there are some gorgeous women out there that I would be flattered if they said they found me attractive or were interested in me... but the bottom line is I am married to a wonderful guy and what we do 'in the bedroom' is between him and I. That being said................... I grew up with "Uncle _____ and Aunt ____", and sometimes both those spots were filled by males family members. We also had a female couple in our close family friends. It never occurred to me as a very young child that this was, shall I say "weird" or is not "normal" a better way to put it? I also grew up in a Roman Catholic household- Church on Sundays and CCD on Mondays. All during this stage in my life, the phrases "that's so gay" and "you're so gay" were being thrown around a lot. "Fag", "faggot", even "homo"- ...
