The (NOT SO) Skinny Girl

It's so easy right now to just go off on people. Mostly due to our own ignorance, or own perceived self-worth. Today, right now, it is easier to react rather than take it in and formulate our actions. It is easier to let our filter be non-existent and just spew... like the girl from The Exorcist. Spewing garbage, hate, and often stupidity. It is much harder to listen, take it in, to take it into account, and then take our time to carefully formulate a response, an opnion, or a perception. Our minds are half-assed on display, while our hearts are caged away. It is a scary time, it is a hateful time, and it is all of our faults.

Poster:  I really don't get how people can equate BLM/Black Panthers to neo-nazis/KKK/nazis/alt-right. They are not the same thing. A "news outlet" aired a video of a Texas Mayor saying he is  "more fearful of large gatherings of young white men that come into schools, theaters and shoot people up"  than any Muslim or refugee. Now that's all fine and dandy. Everyone is entitled to their opinion- and Texas has a very large Muslim population. It also has had multiple incidents of "mass" (4 or more dead) shootings perpetrated by both Muslims and whites. Of course people are quick to jump on his bandwagon and say that white people are the devil. UM, WHAT? So the majority of the country is "the devil"... ? So recently it's all about BLACK lives matter, LGBT lives matter, BLUE (police) lives matter....the question begs to be answered: WHY DON'T ALL LIVES MATTER? When we were children, we would tell our parents that we had a new friend. They were nice to us. They shared their snack. They were a boy or  a girl, and they had brown/blonde/red hair.... they had some distinguishing characteristics. Most likely, we picked them out because #1 they were nice to us and #2 they stood out to us. Maybe because of their characteristics, but probably because of their personality. I really don't think I ever came home and told my parents I had a black/white/purple (whatever) friend- that didn't matter. But maybe when my parents finally met that special friend they said something like "Oh they're Asian" or "oh the little black boy". It took an adult's perception to put a gender or raced based category to my new friend. And then you grow up doing that- Classify...

Let's talk about discrimination. Let's talk about judgement. Let's talk about HATE. I am white, female, Christian, American, Catholic, short, loud, outgoing, fun, cute, educated, loving. I have big hopes and dreams, I have educated and yet provocative thoughts and outlooks. I have swagger, I have style, I have a personality. I feel the HATE more than the love. I see how people look at me, I have heard how they perceive me. I have felt the sting of discrimination.  And yet there are so many people out there who would never believe that I too have felt singled out for my thoughts/beliefs/actions/being. To some, I'm as normal as it gets. To some, I stick out like a sore thumb. To some, I blend in or am "tolerable". To some, I stand out or "should be avoided at all costs". By now it's all over the news... Gun violence  TRAGEDY strikes again. And now you will see things like this: or   or   or So I ask you- What is your opinion? They are brothers and sisters, sons and daughters, mothers and fathers, husbands and wives, friends, lovers, men, women, gay, straight, white, black, Latino, unknown ethnicity. They are PEOPLE. They were there at a place that should be a judgement free safe-heaven. It was labeled as supportive of a certain sector. They went there without fear, without hate. And Hate and Fear found them.... Thought this might make some people laugh... Someone just defriended and blocked me because they couldn't handle my opinion on a trending topic. I used to break bread with this person, used to be beer pong buddies, used to hang out and treated each other like family- I think they called me "big sister".  And yet, when I voiced my opinion on a subject and they vehemently disagreed ... instead of engaging in a conversation where both sides are heard and there are no hard feelings, instead of "agreeing to disagree", instead of having a respectable debate... this person immediately resort to name calling and swea ring and belittling.  "STFU you're white trash" (not sure what that has to do with anything- you're white too?) and tell me to go kill myself. This happens way too much on the internet- and I have seen it happen in a [very]specific age group (millennials). Thank God I know that this was one of the stupidest subjects to blow a gasket ...
