Infertility, insensitivity, emotional abuse?

So, as you can tell from my blog there is a theme lately. Infertility.  1 in 8 couples (or 12% of married women) have trouble getting pregnant or sustaining a pregnancy, per the 2006-2010 National Survey of Family Growth by the CDC. 7.4 million women, or 11.9% of women, have ever received any infertility services in their lifetime. Couples ages 29-33 with normal functioning reproductive systems have only a 20-25% chance of conceiving in any given month, per the National Women’s Health Resource Center. After six months of trying, 60% of couples will conceive without medical assistance- that number is from 1997. 20 years later, even that statistic is out of range- #1 being that people are all waiting longer to start having children (thus they are older) and are having more issues and more time spent trying before conception. Case in point, my husband and I are 31 and 32 respectively... we started 'trying' at 28 and 29. Currently at the 2.5 YEARS mark of TRYING. When I was not...

Interesting study on Gen Z (specifically ages 13-17)

https://storage.googleapis.com/think/docs/its-lit.pdf That's the link to the results of the study that involved "400 teens ages 13 to 17 and 800 millennials ages 18-25". Based on that reference from their closing page, I can see we are dealing with juveniles here. FFS could you pick a way to write the ages and be consistent? Use "to" or "-" but not both. UGH. Here we go!!! Page 3: According to this study, each teenager spends about $733 annually. They have the power to get their household to spend about $3,333 annually. They are about 25% of the population- and companies and marketing firms should not underestimate the power of their dollars. *I had a job at 13, and I don't think I spent $733 annually. Since paper routes are almost non-existent now, how exactly are these kids coming up with their own $733 to spend? And I sure didn't have the power to make anyone in my household spend $3,000 a year. We bargain-shopped and did without mos...

Thoughts that turn into 'rants'...

I have a new idea for a video. While I was cleaning stalls at the barn I ride at, I realized that I have certain qualities that the next generation will never have. If someone asked why am I 30 years old cleaning stalls like I did when I was 16... the answer is because it's humbling work and I am working off things that I want. I am working so that I can get free lessons or free trailering to shows- or money which I will put towards those two things. This is the same things I did when I was 16-21 (high school and college). At 30 years old, things are no cheaper than they were and I have a plethora of other financial responsibilities, so this is a FRUGAL way to enjoy my expensive hobby. FRUGAL. That word doesn't sit well with 'entitled' people. They don't know about living below their means. They weren't taught this valuable lesson. If they want it, they can have it, and they WILL have it. If they have to pay top dollar they will. I don't live with that m...

Should we "blame" parents for MILLENNIALS?

People are "blaming parents of millennials" for the way their kids turned out.  But think of it this way- OUR parent's(and their parent's before them) generation grew up and raised us by breaking their backs and pinching pennies so we(the children) would have everything we 'wanted and dese rved' and thus they handed us many things with the reasoning that "their parents were never able to do it like this"  ...So instead of us working hard and breaking our backs for things we wanted starting at a very young age(as our parents and grandparents did before us), some of us became accustomed to things being bestowed upon us and grew up thinking that was how the world worked.  Our parents- most of them- were great people only trying to do what they thought was best for us.  But a little bit of working for something and appreciating it when you earned it can surely go a long long way.   I have had a job since I was 12 or so and lived mostly on my ...

"abusive" or parenting.... why is this even a debate?

Apparently, my mom and dad were abusive to me when I was a kid. They made me do chores, behave in public, and go to school. They spanked my butt when I did wrong and there was no other way to get through to me. They gave me a curfew and made me keep to it. They made me get a job and work for the things that I wanted. They insisted that I do my best at school, at my job, and to take pride in my work. I grew up with morals, a good work ethic and respect for the law and my elders. I'm blessed to have been so abused and mistreated! But when I look around today- I see a lot of "spoiling" and not a lot of parenting. Seems there are a lot of rude little brats out there and not so many well-behaved children. My mother worked at a Montessori school, and God Bless Maria Montessori because I think someone warped her vision. At today's Montessori school, children are not supposed to use their imagination- everything must be real life-based. You cannot tell a child "n...
