Live and let live

I posted this one year ago on my FB page. Little did I know that within a year, everyone would be trying to tell everyone else how to live 100% worse than they were at that moment in time. What do I mean? "Accept trans people, let them use your bathroom, and don't call them by any pronouns associated with any specific gender" "Accept feminists, listen to their rants, support them as they protest, pay for their birth control" "Accept pro-choice supporters, because you're a woman and you should know we should have the only control over our own bodies. If that means everyone in the country chips in for our birth control and medical well-being and abortions, so be it. We have the right to choose" "Accept illegal aliens, let them live here free of national responsibility, pay for their medical, send their kids to the schools you pay for, don't alienate them" "Accept fat people, don't act like their lifestyle is unhealthy,...

It's tax season, and to some, Trump's taxes are more important than their own...

So tax season is in full swing. My documents are in the queue to be processed and filed with my accountant. Which brings me to my first point of discussion.... using an actual person (accountant) to do your taxes vs. Turbo tax (or other electronic self-filing program). -If you are outraged that wealthy people (including Trump) get 'unfair' tax breaks, what have you done to remedy your own situation? Have you read up on tax law lately? Do you know the ins and outs of the system? Do you know how to make it work for you? Do you know the secrets of the trade? NO?! THEN WHY THE  F**K  ARE YOU USING A SELF GUIDED PROGRAM TO COMPLETE YOUR TAXES? -If you think that having a professional do your taxes is too expensive, and would rather let a cheap or free program assist you, then why are you crying that you don't make out on your taxes? -If you cry year after year about how your 'return' turns out... why aren't you seeking additional guidance/assistance? Why are yo...

Did "day without immigrants" accomplish anything??

I have said it before and I will say it again- my husband is an immigrant. His whole family and the majority of his friends are immigrants. This"immigrant" conversation really hits home for me. Here's why... The country my husband comes from tries it's hardest NOT TO LET IT'S PEOPLE OUT. Especially the youth. Government officials know the youth will power the country forward into the new century (duh) and are important to the workforce and the economy. People have to win a lottery for VISA's. People who apply for VISA's can be denied for no reason at all, and not informed of this denial for a long period of time. It's also a country with a very high white population, almost no blacks, and I don't remember seeing any Latinos or Asians while there either...THAT'S A FIRST WORLD EUROPEAN COUNTRY RIGHT THERE.  2/16/17 was an organized nationwide strike called "day without immigrants". One headline read: 'Day Without Immigrants...

A case FOR millenials FROM a 50+ year old

Her insight: "Some see millennials as trendy, spoiled, self-centered, privileged individuals. As a former teacher of this generation, and a follower of many, I feel they are leading the way in understanding and helping people understand privilege (whether it be white, male, straight... the list can go on and on, because we are finally are being held to the fire to respect the diversity that is America) and I think people of my generation have a lot to learn from them. My idealism, born of proximity to the first civil rights movement, the Vietnam Nam war, and "women's lib" see 'this as a effort to improve our world. Response # 1 to this statement:  But more importantly, our selfies are 0n fl33k*~ (I hope this is sarcastic.....?) Response #2:  Every generation takes heat from the certain obsolete minds of the preceding generations. (Kinda misogynistic to call people who are still living in this society "obsolete" but ok...) ( That's nice. They just...

Have a chuckle!

Colin Kaepernick's right, my right....

After talking about this whole thing in depth with my husband... I know what my point in this all is. I wrote a Facebook post and someone seemed disappointed in how I was viewing this. I realize that hiding behind a keyboard, you lose your emotion and you lose a sense of what you are trying to say. SOOOOO here goes. It's not about his right to stand or sit. It's not about his opinion or his feelings. For me, it's about the way he went about it. He didn't put the time into thinking about his approach to this topic. He had the power, the media, and the presence to make a point and make a difference. And he took action- he sat. And the cameras zoomed in and they saw him and people started wondering, people started asking. They asked if he was injured, sick, what could be triggering him to sit like this. And then he got the opportunity to explain. I guess for me, if you have to explain why you did what you did- you missed the big opportunity to make a po...

IgnoRANT... (sorry not sorry)

So I woke up this morning ... my husband says let's put some air in your tires before you go to the shore. What a winner he is. Always looking out for his woman. (enough sappy). So we hop in the truck and head to the local WAWA. And when we pull up there's a bunch of SUVs hanging out over at the air pump. They're not pumping air. People are out stretching walking around and chatting. That's cool. We are patient. We go tank up, I even get out and clean the windsheild because why not, we're killing time and damn are there a lot of smudges. Ding ding gas is done, we look over- they are still there. We decide to run inside and get a coffee. We hang out a moment debating breakfast sandwiches. I grab a huge jug of water to take to the beach with me. We go out. They are still sitting there. Milling around. OK, clearly no one is getting air. There's even an SUV pulled up to that area using trying to use the pump. My husband says we should just go to another place and ...

The "world police" mentality

So I saw this today: And you know what my response to this meme is?? "What I would eat and what I care about other people eating are two different things" What I have eaten in that picture: chicken, cow, pig, duck What I would eat int hat picture: chicken, cow, pig, duck, rabbit, horse... dog or cat if that was a local specialty/delicacy Not pictured that I've eaten: Goat, fish, alligator, deer, bugs In my eyes, I do not believe that anyone should tell me what to eat and I shouldn't tell other people what to eat. YOU think dogs and cats are fuzzy cute companion animals. YOU think horses are companion animals. What YOU think and what (NAME ANY OTHER PERSON) thinks, believes, or knows is not the same thing. I think my micropig Tito is a family member and I would never eat his adorable little fat bacon filled body. But I eat bacon and pork in general. I think my Nigerian goat is a pain in the ass and I wouldn't eat his sinewy old ass even though he annoys me...

Making babies.... it's not THAT easy

I guess I'm at that age now where people are settling down (LATE 20's, early 30's) and thinking about/trying to/ actually procreating.  It's funny to think there's an appropriate age to do this.  Fast Fact: The female body is ready to reproduce on average between ages 8 and 12. Some as young as 4 have become mothers. Let's not talk about what possesses a male to try to impregnate a 4 year old. It's a disturbing thought for most. Imagine being a kindergartner and getting your period for the first time. Imagine just hitting the double digits and getting it, getting married off, becoming pregnant when you don't even really know whats going on it your body. These things happen in our world today. A few years ago it was a shocker if you were a "teen mom". Teen meaning under 18, probably still in high school. I remember being appalled there was a Freshman in our HS that was pregnant when I was a Junior. I didn't even have sex at this point ...
